Brief diversion: The COVID-19 panel

'preparing' discord chat space for the panel One of the panels I signed up to host was all about COVID.  I figured this was a good one to sit in on, as I [like many of us] had spent my share of the pandemic ramp-up as a crash course in virology.  The biochemistry and single-purpose efficiency of those little buggers is nothing short of stupendous.

I went to the appropriate channel in Discord, and c&p-ed the schedule text in with a little paraphrasing as a means to sort of "clear the channel" and try to keep the stray noise down.  Our zoom hosts were supposed to do some form of this, and did so with varying degrees of effectiveness.  Using a little markdown and judicious spacing helps emphasize that this is a sort of event boundary, that the topic is about the new session pleasethankyou.  Inserting a clear boundary also helps anyone scrolling the channel back to find comment sections for different sessions.

As the panel got started, I completely agreed with the last comment visible here.

COVID speakers had great backgrounds So this is probably the only image in this entire collection with *people* in it and a hi-res version available, for that reason.  Now a few more than 40 people can enjoy the aptness of these visuals.  It's still mind-boggling to consider that the models represent stuff that's constructed at the molecular and atomic scale.

Who would have thought, that the asteroid to come along and wipe out civilization would be so small.
