Subject: FREE storm windows I am in the process of de-installing 14 external storm windows -- typical aluminum-frame triple-track units that have been in place for well over 20 years but are still in reasonable shape. Each one has two glass panes and a screen that easily slip out of the frame by tilting them in; a sample unit with its components is viewable here: http://techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/hse/294stormsample.jpg The frames have a little caulk stuck around the edges and fairly hideous green paint on the flanges, but all can easily be restored to prettier condition. This is in advance of a major renovation; I'm carefully removing the storms intact to try and usefully send them to another home because if I let the builders pull them they'll probably get destroyed. They mount straight to a flat surface with screw holes around the edge of the flange, and were evidently ordered sized to fit quite exactly just inside the house's existing window trim and sills. House is circa 1955, so they fit what was probably typical double-hung sizes around that time. I have the following quantities and sizes. Dimensions are of the outer flange, edge-to-edge. The lower edge varies a little as the frame is cut on a slant to match the drainage angle of a windowsill underneath; the flange is about at the center of the overall thickness and that's where the measurement is to. There is also a little adjustable sliding bit at the bottom that helps match to minor height differences and has a small lip that comes down against the windowsill surface. 2 30-3/4" x 37-3/4" 2 30-3/4" x 53-3/4" one is missing one glass pane 3 30-1/2" x 53-3/4" one has a slightly cracked lower pane 5 30-3/4" x 45-7/8" 1 39-7/8" x 53-3/4" 1 40-7/8" x 54-1/2" slightly different unit, face-mount Five of these are off the house already and the rest will follow, timeframe subject to change. If you are interested in any of the units let me know which sizes and I'll tell you if they're available yet, and if not you'll be the first to know when they are. I need to keep *some* in place for the sake of having some bug screens, at least until the contractors start and new windows get installed. I can deliver anywhere around the Boston-metro area, or you can come pick them up. _H*
